I have my parents to blame for all of this. They were the ones that encouraged me to let my imagination, emotions and intuition reign supreme over the norms of society. They taught me to always be true to myself, regardless of what people might say, and believe you me, they always have something to say. So, that somehow resulted in being in my late 20's, but still managing to play dress-up every day.
No, really - every day!
I did not develop an interest in photography until just a couple of years ago. I have an undergraduate degree in Theatre and Performance Studies, with an emphasis on musical theatre and dance. I somehow managed to graduate Cum Laude, though I suffered extreme writer's block my senior year and nearly had a nervous breakdown. This somehow caused me to have a bad taste in my mouth for theatre, and for several years, I was directionless. Then, I saw the world through the viewfinder of a little Nikon DSLR, and the world changed in an instant, right before my very bloodshot and tired eyes.
I have somehow found a way to incorporate my theatre training into my work, especially self-portraits. I see photography as my stage for self-expression.
When I am not creating photos or writing, which is almost never, I spend time looking at Evan's photos. You can learn more about him in my "Film" section. I have recently taken to playing the ukulele, which I think I will never master, but that is fine by me, because I just love the way it sounds. I also share my life with two very large felines. Elphie, my girl cat, thinks she is an owl. You would just have to see it to believe it. And Fat Cat, dearest most darling Fat Cat, who thinks he is a human, and will often challenge Evan to a duel for my affections.
I am often asked who or what my influences are, and I can never fully answer that question, because I do not have a list of photographers I admire. I am highly influenced by fashions and trends of the Victorian era, as well as the 1960's. It is an odd combination, I know. I listen to an unhealthy amout of Sir Paul McCartney, but am highly influenced by all types of music. I love Van Gogh's cherry blossoms and Monet's waterlilles. I love beer, and am not afraid to admit that I tend to indulge in cheap whiskey. That, I believe is my influential shortlist.
